Eli Williams was born November 8th, 1916 in Camden, Alabama. Dad passed away when Eli was just a young boy, leaving his mom to raise the family (Eli had three brothers and two sisters). He recalled working odd jobs at 7 or 8 years old to try to help his mom. He eventually left school at and found work in the sawmill to help support the family. Eli's mom was employed as a cook for a white family in Alabama. In the early 1940's, Eli served worked for an organization set up by President Roosevelt. He assisted in building public roads, buildings and facilities.

Eli caught his baseball break with the Kansas City Monarchs - played alongside Satchel Paige and Jackie Robinson.

After Negro Leagues Baseball, Eli worked as a longshoreman on the docks of Miami. He continued to play baseball for the Miami Giants.

Mr. Williams would eventually have a large family of his own, eight children in all: three sons and five daughters. He now has 19 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
